Riding the Summer Streets

Today, the city gave a big chunk of New York streets to the bicyclists--and the pedestrians, and the scooter riders, and the skaters. I've been waiting for this all summer and I almost missed it because we were out of town for the first two Saturdays. But we caught it today and had a great time. My biggest thrill may have been snapping the picture above, of the beautiful statue of Mercury above Grand Central Terminal. Not a view you're usually privileged to see.

It was a beautiful day, and a great ride. Relatively few conflicts between people. Here's hoping the city does more of the same next year.
