My First Reading

I'll be reading from my book on Friday, March 2, at A Cappella Books in the Little Five Points neighborhood of Atlanta, a city about which I know absolutely nothing. The reading starts at 7pm, and if you're anywhere in the vicinity, I hope you'll show up.

The reading is scheduled to coincide with the AWP conference, where my publisher, Red Hen Press, will have a table. I am going in part to learn as much as I can about the business of marketing books, but mostly because, after five years of uninterrupted motherhood, a room at the Sheraton Atlanta looks frighteningly appealing.

Not the One Who Likes Ferrets

So it's probably never a good idea to Google yourself. You're almost certain to find some unflattering comment about something you've written, and, if you're like me, it always stings, even if the person writing it is an anonymous boob. On top of that, you can get depressed by contemplating the paltriness of your own contribution to the vast stream of information and accomplishments that go scrolling by.

Or you can, as I did last night, discover that you share a name with a ferret enthusiast.

So, for the record: I am not the Sarah Goodyear from Texas who is a member of the Houston Ferret Meetup Group. I don't own ferrets named Amok and Heffalump and Halfpipe. Not that I have anything in particular against ferrets, or Texans, or Meetup. It's just that she, the one with the ferrets, is not me.

I know it's not likely that you would confuse us, but for some reason, I wanted to clear that up.

Like I said, it's probably best just not to Google yourself.
